Written by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe, Every Brilliant Thing tells the story of a child who creates a list of life’s joyful moments for their mother, who is battling depression. Spanning decades, the play explores themes of mental health, love, and resilience, and uniquely involves audience members in the performance. The Broadway production will be directed by Duncan Macmillan alongside Jeremy Herrin.
Speaking about the show, Duncan said: “Every Brilliant Thing addresses serious topics, but the experience is ultimately joyful and celebratory. Each performance is distinct and unpredictable, demanding exceptional skill from its central performer.”

On Daniel’s casting, he added: “Daniel has the intelligence, quick wit, and warmth to handle the spontaneous nature of the play – he can be playful one moment and deeply moving the next. His depth and humanity are extraordinary. I’m excited to begin.”
The production features design by Vicki Mortimer, lighting by Jack Knowles, and sound by Tom Gibbons. It is produced on Broadway by Second Half Productions, Seaview, and Gavin Kalin Productions, in association with Paines Plough.
