Aston Merrygold Shares Emotional Hospital Update After Surgery — and Thanks Fans for Their “Unbelievable Support”
JLS star Aston Merrygold has shared a deeply heartfelt update with fans after undergoing surgery for a painful injury that has forced him off his feet in recent weeks.
The 37-year-old singer, who first captured the nation’s hearts on The X Factor before rising to fame with JLS, posted photos from his hospital bed showing both relief and gratitude — along with emotional moments surrounded by his wife, Sarah-Louise Richards, and their three children.
“Done, done & done!” Aston wrote in his caption, confirming the procedure had gone smoothly.
“Thank you for all the love… surgery went to plan, thankfully. Now recovery begins — but at least I’m home with my favourites.”
In one photo, Aston flashes his trademark smile and two thumbs up despite being hooked up to medical monitors, a signal to fans that his trademark optimism remains intact. Another image shows Sarah-Louise leaning in for a warm, supportive selfie, while a third captures their children curled up next to him — a moment that instantly melted fans’ hearts.
The surgery comes after a difficult stretch in which Aston struggled with what he called a “nasty” and unexpectedly persistent ankle injury, leaving him in a boot and using crutches. He admitted he did everything he could to avoid an operation but ultimately had to prioritise long-term recovery.
Sarah-Louise penned her own message praising her husband’s resilience, calling him a “warrior in every sense.”
“The road to recovery is longer than we hoped,” she wrote, “but we’re right here with you.”
Messages of support poured in across social media, including from longtime bandmate Marvin Humes — who said he was “buzzing everything went well” — while Rochelle Humes and Example added emojis of prayer and celebration.
Aston’s journey with JLS spans nearly two decades, from their explosive breakout in 2008 to becoming one of the UK’s best-loved pop groups, selling out arenas and topping charts before reuniting for major tours in 2021 and 2023.
Now, as Aston enters recovery mode, fans are rallying behind him once again — celebrating not only a successful surgery but the heartwarming reminder that the singer remains surrounded by love, strength and unwavering support.
